University of Wales | Swansea,

Bachelor of Arts Technical Illustration & Graphic Design

On acceptance to the design college, I decided to run with two courses, one being technical illustration based, and I had completed an A-Level in Technical Drawing.

I studied technical illustration alongside graphic design for the first 2 years, and earned a qualification (Dip. MSIAD) at the end of year 3. I was also, at this time, invited to experience live industrial work within the region, and became part of several projects jointly with the college and Borg Warner Automatic Transmissions. Here I was responsible for creating 3 dimensional perspective line drawings from 2 dimensional orthographic plans. I would also render full colour cutaway airbrush illustrations for promotional and instructional use. I was continuing my graphic design course, and qualified with a BA (Hons) in 1984.

Interests

I'm passionate about all kinds of great design, with my real love being typography.

I have a passion for music, especially jazz. I play trumpet and piano in a variety of musical groups. I've played on the BBC Strictly Come Dancing Tour Show (52 engagements), and continue to perform with some of the biggest bands and theatre shows in the UK.

I am a keen artist, specialising in portraiture. I used to be a regular rugby player (No. 9) and now enjoy watching.

I enjoy beach walks with my wife and dog - get's me away for some thinking space on new projects.

I enjoy socialising with friends, making new ones, and making people laugh!
